Night Shift: Safety & Observation Audit

Section 1: Security & Environment

Are all external doors and ground-floor windows securely locked and alarmed?

Are communal areas adequately lit for safety but dimmed enough for a 'night-time' feel?

Is the nurse call system volume set to an audible but non-disruptive level?

Are the laundry and kitchen areas locked and secured as per policy?

Section 2: Resident Monitoring & Safety

Are 'Night Checks' being performed at the intervals specified in individual care plans?

Is there evidence of 'Purposeful Interaction' (e.g., offering a drink/comfort) for residents who are awake?

Are sensor mats and fall alarms switched on and positioned correctly for high-risk residents?

Are pressure-relieving mattresses set to the correct weight and functioning quietly?

Section 3: Staff Conduct & Readiness

Are staff wearing appropriate uniforms and ID (not 'loungewear' or non-regulation hoodies)?

Can the Night Lead identify the emergency 'Fire Grab Pack' and explain evacuation for the current census?

Is there evidence of a 'Midnight Handover' or late-night safety huddle documented?

Are staff alert and engaged (not sleeping, using personal laptops, or watching non-work media)?
